At The Spin Dr. we want to keep your old Vestax & Technics turntables spinning. 

We service, clean and maintain legacy Technics SL-1200 and SL-1210 MK2 - MK6 & Vestax PDX series turntables

Vestax Servicing

There is a handful of simple components which we replace on the Vestax to keep them going another decade or two, which solve quite a lot of common issues.  This standard service for PDX2/3000 is £75 per turntable and will involve;

 

  • 3 new pairs of transistors handling power
  • 1 new pair of capacitors on the UCOM board
  • 1 new pair of capacitors at the bridge rectifier
  • new tact switches
  • new screw sets
  • faders cleaned and lubricated
  • spindle oiled
  • power switch checked
  • start/stop button checked
  • tonearm bearings checked
  • tonearm wiring checked
  • headshell contacts checked
  • Loctite high strength threadlocker to keep the feet on

 

Other issues that cannot be solved with replacing old components with modern versions, may require sourcing of hard to find items, and in this case the we will work with the customer to find the necessary parts.

Technics Servicing

Similarly to the Vestax, there are a number of common issues with the Technics which can be solved with some fairly simple components which are readily available and we can include in a normal service. For Technics our standard service costs £60 and will include;

  • Oil spindle
  • oil pop up lamp
  • open and clean pitch fader
  • check components for any heat spikes
  • check soldering for dry joints
  • check tonearm wiring
  • check bearings
  • check tracking
  • check headshell contacts
  • check height adjust
  • recalibrate pitch fader

 

Repairs

We need to diagnose a turntable if its not working, We can't accept a job on the basis of one repair, as often one issue can be masking another issue, so we must diagnose, for which we charge £50. From that we can then give you a break down of items, labour and options to get it back to full health.

 

Whilst we try to get these old machines working again, a lot of parts just aren't available new, in which case we will try and source replacements from working machines. This can sometimes lead to long repair times, but we will let you know availability of any parts required.
